There are three different types of poverty biological poverty, relative poverty, and official poverty. Biological poverty is refers to malnutrition and starvation. It could also refer to housing and clothing so inadequate that people suffer from exposure. Homeless people endure biological poverty. Relative poverty refers to comparing peoples standard of living and concluding that some are worse or better off than others. The United States uses the term official poverty which refers to an income level
The problem with this is that America is indeed struggling with
poverty: there are currently 488 counties in America where It is
hard to imagine poverty that is worse than this, anywhere in the
world. Indeed, it is precisely the cost and difficulty of housing
that makes for so much misery for so many Americans, and it is
precisely these costs that are missed in the World Banks global

I met with state and especially municipal officials who are determined to improve social protection for the poorest 20 of their communities, I saw an energized civil society in many places, I visited a Catholic Church in San Francisco (St Boniface the Gubbio Project) that opens its pews to the homeless every day between services, I saw extraordinary resilience and community solidarity in Puerto Rico, I toured an amazing community health initiative in Charleston, West Virginia that serves 21,000 patients with free medical, dental, pharmaceutical and other services, overseen by local volunteer physicians, dentists and others (Health Right), and indigenous communities presenting at a US-Human Rights Network conference in Atlanta lauded Alaskas advanced health care system for indigenous peoples, designed with direct participation of the target group. Poverty is defined in many ways. The dictionary definition simply does not suffice to show the human cost of poverty. Poverty is much more than the limited capital resources that this definition suggests.

The study by Rank and Hurst (2015) fills the gap in the
literature by focusing on poverty and intergenerational mobility
as a means of measuring income. When people hear the word poverty
many people think of the bad connotations that come with it like,
smelly homeless people that are crackheads and disease holders.
Some people may even think they are uneducated or not hard
working enough and rather ask for money instead of trying to get

our own giving.

Level of poverty in the United States coupled with the disparaging rates of income are at times hard to comprehend. How can a country of such great wealth and power also be a country of vast poverty? Poverty will always be evident in the United States to some extent. However, minimizing poverty and income inequality will be conducive to the well being of the United States. Numerous organizations are assisting those in need. Then why does the United States have so many people poverty stricken
