Connor Spangenberg Professor Rosalsky English 221 09 July 2012 Lesson Learned In almost every literary work, there is a lesson learned by the narrator of the story through other characters and/or occurring events. Two short stories that have this happen are Lan Samantha Changs Water Names and Toni Cade Bambaras The Lesson. In both of these stories, adults are teaching the lesson to the children. However, this lesson is taught in an entirely different approach in one story than it is in. I feel this semester, only the first of many I will endure, was a successful one. The objective of the course was to make us better writers, and I certainly have improved. I learned what makes a paper good or bad, what makes it easier to write a good paper, and how the manner that the class is held makes a difference. We all did so many papers and every paper was about different ideas which were very interesting. Wilmington University has acceded my expectations from day one. Thinking that you will be commuting from home every day isnt the best. At the age of 18, applying for colleges as far away from home as possible and trying to make scholarships add up is the only thing that you want. Never did I think I would try to get to some classes early to hang out with other classmates. My experience with Wilmington University has been great and the achievements Ive done and plan to do only point me in the right




English is very important today. Its like a bridge that connects people, nations and countries. Its a language of bussines, commerce, politics, sport, fashion, culture and glamour. Without knowledge of English you wont be able to find a good job and reach success in your future career. I understand it very well, so I study hard to master English. I used to equate recreation, leisure, and play with laziness and unproductiveness, but taking this class has broadened my view of these terms and helped me to conceptualize my pre-existing beliefs and develop my philosophy. Through this class I've learned that recreation, leisure and play are essential, not only in my life, but for all ages and in all cultures and societies. The Importance of Learning English Today

Id like to share my experience in learning English. I have been learning English for nine years, and its my favourite subject at school. I learned my first English words and expressions at the age of five with the help of colourful books. Now Im studying in year 8 at school spezialized in learning foreign languages. I have five English classes per week. We read and discuss texts, have practice in listening and writing and do lots of grammar and vocabulary exercises. My favourite activities in English classes are the following: doing computer tests, doing projects and speaking. As for extra-curricular work I like taking part in English contests and act in perfomances. I doubt there is any person alive whodoes not wish they could speak another language. It is a skill that everyone would love to add to their resume. With a little bit of studying every day, you can have this skill. Then you can be very proud of your ability to communicate with a wide variety of people. For example, imagine that a businessperson from Israel, who speaks English and Hebrew, wants to do business with a someone from South Africa, who speaks English and Afrikaans.
