William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream Essays
Early in the play, Hermia is being forced to marry Demetrius. She
openly protests against the marriage proposal forced upon her by
her father, and she demands to know what will be her fate if she
defies the order to marry Demetrius who she does not love.
Shakespeare intends to build up an argument about Hermia as a
feminist model. Hermia represents a character that portrays the
possibilities of women being agents and advocates for their own
destiny. A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999)

Guynes English 12 16 March 2000 A Critical Analysis of "A
Midsummer Night's Dream" William Shakespeare, born in 1594, is
one of the greatest writers in literature. He dies in 1616 after
completing many sonnets and plays. One of which is "A Midsummer
Night's Dream." They say that this play is the most purely
romantic of Shakespeare's comedies. The themes of the play are
dreams and reality, love and magic. This extraordinary play is a
play-with-in-a-play, which
Bekah Atkins In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare describes a feud between two families from which two star-crossed lovers came, who soon took their lives for what they thought was true love. Our star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, have their fair share of strengths along with weaknesses. Juliets strengths are her loyalty to those she loves and how she also defends them but, her weaknesses are how naïve she is and her poor communication skills. Respect and generosity are Romeos strong suits but his flaws are impulsivity and his over emotion. Romeo and Juliet are simply weak characters that are unable to accept reality and move on with their lives. Friar Lawrence is undoubtedly to blame for the tragic, depressing events that unfold the loving play, Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence tries to make everyone like each other even though it is impossible to like everyone. He dislikes how the Capulets and Montagues are always fighting. Romeo Montague came to Friar Lawrence to, marry Juliet Capulet. Friar is the priest so you have to come The play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" also illustrates that the breakup between Oberon and Titana had caused a commotion in the world.
This aspect is meant to show that couples can have the world at harmony by their sober relationship. In this play, the gender roles are particularly obvious, and it shows how the society expects women to behave. The jealousy between Hermia and Helena cause them to betray their relationship and abandon their lifelong friendship. This shows that women accept their role as the weaker sex. They let men ruin their bonds, break their hearts, and get away with it. Men are glad to dominate women and set rules for them. There is love between a man and a woman, and usually it does not last long, when a man and a woman find true love that lasts, it can bring happiness into their lives. Titania and Oberon had an argument because of Titanias attention towards an Indian boy. Oberon, who is the king of the fairies, uses his authority as a husband to force her to give up the Indian boy, and he is astonished when she disobeys him and leaves. Oberon expectation is that women should be dominated by men, and they must be submissive. Oberon does not accept defeat and uses the magic love portion to trick Titana into giving him the Indian boy. This shows that men are ready to do anything to ensure they win over women in all perspectives.
Treatment of women as objects is more evidently portrayed in Demetrius and Lysander. Demetrius had sworn to love Helena before the play began. Now he no longer loves her and wants to marry Hermia despite Helenas loyalty to him. A Midsummer Nights Dream portrays a clear picture of how men are never serious with love, they promise to love different women within moments just like Demetrious. Romeo & Juliet: Honors Prompt In love there are two sides: light and dark. One side is beautiful and bright; the other one is dangerous. In Romeo & Juliet their love is shown often through darkness. Love and hate are very important in the story because of the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. In Romeo & Juliet, author William Shakespeare shows the idea that there is a dark side to love; this becomes clear to readers when it is used within the families and the star-crossed lovers affection. At the end of the play Robin goodfellow's epilogue states that "The country proverb known, That every man should take his own, In your waking shall be shown. Jack shall have Jill; Nought shall go ill: The man shall have his mare again, and all shall be well" (ActIII.

In the novela, A Midsummer Nights Dream, written by William Shakespeare, there are many moments, issues, themes, and problems to discus. A major issue that I would like to discuss would be loves difficulty throughout the story. Although love is driving a majority of the characters in this play, it is not a romance, but a comedy. A comedy that shows the audience how people can be blind, foolish, and innocent when manipulated by the extraordinary strong power of love. Love is an uncontrollable force in the play having the characters used like puppets after taking a love potion, which shows they are controlled by love. A Midsummer Night's Dream (c. 1595) was written around the same time Shakespeare whipped up his famous play about two "star-cross'd" lovers, Romeo and Juliet. In Dream, a group of craftsmen (the "Mechanicals") bumble their way through a ridiculous performance of Pyramus and Thisbe (a story taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses). The Mechanicals' play is widely considered to be Shakespeare's light-hearted and silly mock-up of Romeo and Juliet. No, it's not the latest romantic comedy to hit theaters near you; it's a play that was dreamed up by William Shakespeare toward the end of the 16th century. Like the modern-day romantic comedy genre it's helped to shape and influence, A Midsummer Night's Dream features young lovers who fall comically in and out of love in a ridiculously brief period of time (over the course of a single, enchanted midsummer night).
