Writers should keep out anything particularly personal that could be difficult or too much information for the reader. Do not include anecdotes. Because the essay is designed to be short and sweet, the writer should go through the writing and take out any extraneous information or run-on sentences. Why it works: The good ol scare em trick. Theres nothing wrong with a little fear-mongering in advertising. By stating that plastic water bottles are bad for individual health and the environment, this sentence plays on the audiences fears and suggests an easy solution: stop using plastic water bottles. It is simply a tool you can use beforehand to improve the accuracy and fluency of your grammar. So how do you gain an audiences attention, pique their interest, and get them buying what youre selling? Here are some tips that will help you think from the target audiences perspective and write in a way that will speak to them. Perhaps you want to end with a quotation that adds texture to your discussion. Or, perhaps you want to set your argument into a different, perhaps larger context. In short: dont steal other peoples work, give proper credit and cite your sources, and if youre not sure what constitutes plagiarism, get guidance from your instructor or someone in your schools writing center before its a problem.
